CUSTOM AND INDUSTRIAL CANVAS PROJECTS

How to work with Waagmeester Canvas Products

WHAT IS CANVAS?

The word canvas originally comes from cannabis – the scientific name for the hemp plant. It is the fiber of the hemp plant that has traditionally been used to weave a heavy and durable cloth for all kinds of rigorous use. Read more details here.

Today, there are lots of choices available in fabrics. We use natural material and synthetic – depending on the key features needed for your project. Many people use the term ‘canvas’ now to include those fabrics. Our research process keeps introducing us to new fabrics, blends, coatings, and techniques. We offer this experience to our customers.

CAN WE TALK?

Certainly. Most of the custom and industrial canvas projects we have done are special. There’s just no way to express all the possible things that can be done with the fabrics and materials available today. Before you decide what fabric is the right choice for you, let us have a chance to discuss it. We’re happy to field your questions and offer some multi-generational experience. Contact us by phone by calling our office at 503-288-6591, complete the Online Contact Form below or e-mail us at info@waagmeester.com.

HOW MUCH INFORMATION DO YOU NEED?

The more specific your information is, the better we can determine how to help. With general information we can give you a price range and in many cases we are able to help you say what you need. But for a more accurate quote it helps to have aids such as drawings, blueprints, schematics, pictures and measurements. Some of the significant factors that determine cost will be the selection of the most suitable material, combined with the amount of custom work that needs to be done such as cuts and seams.

Please feel free to talk with us about your project, even if you don’t have it totally worked out in your mind. Our experience lends itself to knowing what can and can’t be done cost effectively. Not only that, but we invest a great deal of time and effort in keeping current on the best products available. If there is a new feature available, it might make all the difference to your project. We can share that information with you, on a brainstorming or consulting basis.

CAN YOU MAKE PROTOTYPES, SAMPLES OR ONE-OFFS?

Yes. A prototype or a sample of a potential product is always a good idea. It provides you the opportunity to investigate the product and determine if changes need to be made before beginning a production run. The cost of a prototype is typically required before the project begins. In some cases a portion of the prototype fee is credited to the cost of a production run.

CAN YOU HANDLE QUANTITY RUNS?

Yes, that’s our specialty. When it is time to run your project, we will have already agreed on the design and specifications of the end product. Our production facility in Portland is very capable and we have alliances both domestic and internationally so we can get the job done at the most competitive price.

WHAT ABOUT FEES AND PAYMENTS?

Normally, we do not charge fees for an initial consultation, so please feel free to contact us. Once we determine that your project is viable, we will provide an estimate – or a firm bid – before work begins. If you are able to provide firm drawings and specifications, we can provide a firm quote for your job. A down payment is required for custom work. Depending on the expected project size, it ranges from 30% to 50% of the estimated total.

WILL YOU MAKE SUGGESTIONS TO IMPROVE THE PRODUCT AND/OR SAVE ME MONEY?

Our staff is knowledgeable and has access to worldwide directories of supplies and fabrication techniques. We’re here to roll up our sleeves and get the job done. Try us and see if your toughest problem is too much for us. We enjoy challenges.
